Short Course: Designing Tall Buildings – Structure as Architecture
Mark P. Sarkisian, PE, SE, LEED, Partner of Seismic and Structural Engineering in the San Francisco office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, has discussed tall building design from various perspectives including: historical developments, issues of the site, fundamentals of forces, the language of structures, systems, and finally – and most importantly – creative solutions inspired by nature and realized in mechanisms that have led, and will lead to, the most beautiful and efficient structures. University of Naples Federico II has not dormitories yet, but at the moment foreigner students usually live in private flats shared with other guys in the centre of Naples.
Our Department will provide assistance in finding a private flat through Erasmus Point Naples (ph/fax +39.081.5634196) which not only finds accommodation solutions for students, but also helps them with all bureaucratic problems (as permit of stay, health insurance, bank account, etc.).
In Naples the rent for a single room ranges between € 250,00 to € 450,00. Usually a deposit, equivalent to two months rent, is required.
Moreover, the University of Naples Federico II has made an arrangement with two organisations that can provide room & board for foreign undergraduate as well as graduate foreign students. Residence “Monterone” will host male students whereas Residence “Villalta” will host female students. Admission to either residence is by application to the addresses listed below:

The monthly rate is € 450.00, which includes lodging in single or triple rooms, the use of a computer room, library and other facilities. Also, students are welcome to take part in the social and cultural activities organised by the residence.
